Police in Leeds have released a series of CCTV stills in a bid to identify a knife wielding robber.
Officers believe the suspect was caught on camera yesterday morning (18/1) after fleeing on foot from a brave victim who challenged the robber and gave chase despite being threatened with a knife.
The incident occurred around 8.35am on the canal towpath near to lock three, which is located just off Wellington Street and close to the junction with Wellington Place.
After being threatened with what was described as 4- 6" inch kitchen knife, the suspect demanded the victim's wallet and phone.
The 44-year-old male victim then challenged the would-be robber who turned and ran from the scene towards the City Island complex and Gotts Road.
It's believed he left the area via Whitehall Road and a man matching his description was caught on camera near to the junction between Northern Street and Wellington Street.
The suspect is described as:
Police are also probing two similar incidents that occurred earlier in the month around the same location.
On the 3 January around 5.30pm, two suspects robbed a 43-year-old male.
During the robbery the victim was punched in the face before his wallet was taken.
The suspects were both described as:
The following day, on the 4 January and around 7.45pm, a 22-year-old man was threatened with a knife by two males who took his wallet, iPhone and iPod touch.
The suspects were both thought to be white males around 6ft tall.
Detective Constable David McKean, who is leading the investigation, said:
"The CCTV images we have are good quality and I believe someone will be able to identify the individual and I would ask that person to come forward.
"I would also like to pay tribute to the bravery shown by the victim in confronting the suspect and giving chase.
"While I would not encourage anyone to place themselves at further risk of harm his actions were commendable.
"In light of the recent robberies in the area high visibility patrols by uniformed officers have been increased along the canal side."
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC McKean at Holbeck CID on 101.
