Swaggering robber threatens newsagent staff with metal bar: Reading

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at McColls in West End Road, Mortimer on 20/07/2009.

At around 9pm a man entered the shop, walked behind the till area, forced open the tills and left the shop with the money he had stolen.

He was seen running off through St Johns Road, over Drury Lane and into an area known as Summerlug.

The offender is described as:

  • a white male
  • skinny build
  • 'not very tall'
  • aged early twenties
  • wearing black tracksuit trousers and a black shiny cagoule or rain coat with the hood pulled up tightly over his head and face
  • 'walked with a swagger'

Sgt Barry Walker from the local neighbourhood team would like to reassure the residents of Mortimer that the neighbourhood team are conducting house to house enquiries in the area to help with the investigation and are happy to answer any questions you might have.
