British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information after thieves attempted to break into a kiosk at Thorpe Bay rail station in the early hours of Wednesday, 28 September.
Detectives have also released CCTV images of two men they would like to identify and talk to in connection with the incident.
Detective Constable David Bishop, the investigating officer, said:
"Sometime between 00:15 and 00:40 on Wednesday 28 September 2011, two people attempted to break into the kiosk.
"When staff arrived on Wednesday morning to open the kiosk, on the London-bound platform of the station, they noticed the metal shutter had been dented inwards, the lock to the door was damaged and a sign had also been pulled away from the front of the kiosk."
Officers have made local enquiries, spoken to station staff and reviewed CCTV but have so far been unable to identify those responsible.
DC Bishop added:
"Although nothing was stolen from the station that night, this is still criminal behaviour and it's imperative that we catch the men responsible.
"The CCTV is very clear and I'm sure someone will recognise these men - if you do, I am urging you to contact police, your information could be vital to the investigation."
