Police were called to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday 7th March, during the rugby league match between The Dons and Queens ARLFC.
Crowd trouble involving a small minority of people caused the referee to abandon the game, during the second half.
There was no planned police presence at this fixture, this is usual at most rugby league fixtures, and the security operation was being undertaken by stewards.
Police attended as a result of a request from the stadium Security Manager.
There were a total of three arrests made, for public order offences and further enquiries are ongoing. CCTV footage has been made available to police who are investigating this matter
The vast majority of people attending the fixture were well behaved and co-operated with police and stewards at the venue.
The senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Vicky Short has said:
"Doncaster Police have launched an investigation into an incident that occurred on Saturday at the Keepmoat Stadium. Arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
Anyone with any information with regards to identifying individuals who were involved in causing the abandonment of the game is asked to contact the police on 0114 2202020 ext 5630.
