Lothian and Borders Police can confirm the two harrier hawks that were reported stolen from Loanhead on Friday (January 13) were recovered and reunited with their owner on Saturday night (January 14).

A police spokesperson said:

"While we are pleased that the hawks have been reunited with their rightful owner, the fact they have been mistreated is concerning and inquiries are continuing to establish exactly who took them."

Theft of Birds, Loanhead Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for information following the theft of two harrier hawks from a property in Loanhead sometime in the early hours of this morning (January 13).

The two female harriers were taken from an aviary in the garden of a house in Park View sometime between 00.30am and 9.30am.

The birds have dark brown feathers, with black tail feathers and white tips on their wings and tails.

Both of them are officially registered with the IRB and have blue rings.

A police spokesperson said:

"These birds are highly valuable, but would only be of interest to a very specialist market, so we would encourage anyone who is approached about them to contact us immediately.

"In addition, we would be keen to hear from anyone who would have been in the area at the time, and who may have seen something suspicious, to get in touch."

Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
