About 0320 hours on Thursday 5th May 2011 the Scottish Ambulance Service received a report of an incident at Talmine near Tongue Bay, Sutherland whereby two persons were believed to be in the sea.

Police Officers from Northern Constabulary, the RNLI Lifeboat from Thurso and personnel from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency attended.

One person was recovered from the Bay and has been taken to Caithness General Hospital at Wick for treatment.

The second person was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing at the scene and at this time details of the deceased are not being released.

A report on the circumstances will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal at Dornoch in due course.
