Police are working with fire investigators to seek the cause of a fire at a pet shop in Eastbourne.

At 11.15pm on Monday, 2 May officers were called by Fire and Rescue to the pet shop in Albert Parade in Eastbourne.

The fire was mainly situated at the rear of the premises in a garage which was being used for storage for hay and straw.

The fire was extinguished and all the contents were removed from the garage area.

The upper levels of the building which was a store room adjacent to the garage and the upstairs main shop area and the flats above the shop all had smoke damage.

Several residents of a flat above the premises had been evacuated by the fire service as a precaution but none were injured.

Properties next to the pet shop had smoke damage.

No pets were affected or evacuated.
