Officers investigating the murder of Mahmood Jama in Forest Gate in the early hours of Wednesday 6 January have arrested another man.
Man [G] aged 17 was arrested this morning, Saturday 16 January and is currently in custody at a south London police station.
Detectives are still appealing for witnesses and information after the Police were called at approx. 01.10hrs on Wednesday 6 January to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of Whyteville House, Upton Lane E7.
A man was found on the first floor landing, suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen - he was taken to Royal London Hospital where he died at 03:44hrs.
He was Mahmood Jama, 21 (28.11.88) of Boundary Road E13 (a British citizen who was born in Somalia).
A post-mortem gave cause of death as a shotgun wound to the chest.
An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Mark Dunne (HSCC).
Detectives believe that an altercation took place between two groups of youths on a former garage forecourt in Studley Road at its junction with Upton Lane and continued into Whyteville House where the victim was shot.
Although arrests have been made, we stress that the investigation continues and we still need help from the public - all our points of appeal are still relevant.

+ Five men [A - 21 ys; B - 23 ys; C - 20 ys; D - 23 ys; E - 20 ys] were arrested in the vicinity and taken to various east London police stations.
All were later released with no further action.
On 14 January a man [F - 18 ys] was arrested close to his home in the Ilford area and was taken to a south London police station - now bailed to return later in January pending further inquiries.
