Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Petts Wood. At approximately 15:07 hrs on Thursday 27.03.08 a white Toyota Corolla travelling on Towncourt Lane, in the direction of Crofton Lane, was in collision with a male pedestrian standing on the pavement. The car then collided with the rear of another vehicle. The pedestrian, a 50 year old man from the local area, died at the scene. We await formal identification. A post mortem will be carried out and an inquest will open in due course. The driver of the vehicle, a 72 year old woman, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving; she has been bailed to return to a south London police station on a date in June. Anyone with information is asked to contact the MPS Collision Investigation Unit at Catford on 020 8285 1574; if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
