Police are appealing for information following a series of incidents at the Derby Arms public house in Great Urswick, Ulverston. Since May 2008, four incidents of criminal damage have been reported.
On 29th May 2008, a groundfloor window at the front of the pub was broken. Damage was valued at approx. £300. On 11th June 2008, a corrosive substance likened to paint stripper was poured over a vehicle parked outside the pub and walls were also sprayed with graffiti. Damage was valued at around £2,000. On 12th September 2008, a hosepipe was placed through the window of a car parked outside the pub which was then filled with water. During the evening of the 2nd October 2008, an offender was captured on CCTV throwing old engine oil over the outside of the premises. The offender is described as wearing quite distinct tracksuit bottoms with a double light stripe down the legs, a hoodie and baseball cap. Damage is valued at several hundreds of pounds.
Sergeant John McIntosh from Dalton Police Station said: "This is very unusual for the Low Furness area. Nowhere else has been affected as the series of events appear to be targetted attacks against one particular pub in the area. The value of damage that has been done runs into thousands of pounds that local people have had to pay out for. We would ask that every resident in the area is vigilant and comes forward if they have any information or have seen anyone suspicious in the area. We take instances of crime like this very seriously and will deal with all information in the strictest of confidence."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 0845 33 00 247 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
