British Transport Police is appealing for information after a trio of serious incidents at the weekend near Markinch Station in Fife. The incidents on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 April 2008 occurred on the railway near to Coaltown of Balgonie as trains approached Markinch Station. On Friday evening (18 April 2008) around 18.30 hours, a rope with a brick or similar object had been suspended from the railway bridge near to Lady Nina Square just as an Edinburgh to Inverness train passed. The suspended object struck and damaged the front of the train. Half an hour later a large traffic cone was thrown into the path of an oncoming Edinburgh to Inverurie train service. Fortunately no damage was done on this occasion. Around 15.00 hours on Saturday (19th April 2008) a passing Edinburgh to Dyce service struck an object that had been suspended from the same bridge. BTP officers carried out door-to-door enquiries in the local area in an effort to obtain information. Sergeant Jim Wands of British Transp British Transport Police can be contacted on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
