William Anthony Herd: Dolwyddelan

Police have today (Wednesday 25th June) issued CCTV images of a man who has not been seen for over a week.

William Anthony Herd who is 82-years-old and from Dolwyddelan was last seen on Monday 16th June, and police are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety and whereabouts.

The CCTV images show Mr Herd boarding the Arriva train at Dolwyddelan at approx 12:06 and arriving Betws-y-Coed at approx. 12:20pm.

Thanks to responses from members of the public, officers have now established that Mr Herd visited the Tan Lan bakery, where he was a regular customer at around 12:30pm on Monday 16th June.

Later that day at approx. 3pm witnesses have also seen him walking along the A5 near to the Capel Curig army camp. Two hours later at approx 5pm he was seen walking along the Helyg Straits.

Mr Herd, who is known locally as Bill is described as being between 5ft 8 and 5ft 10 and of slim build. He has blue eyes and wears glasses for reading. He has receding gray hair and a distinctive white beard.

He was last seen wearing a blue coloured shirt and an olive coloured ¾ length coat. He was also carrying a white carrier bag.

Mr Herd, who is originally from the Greater London area retired to North Wales in 1992.

His daughter, Wendy Herd said: "Dad is very active for his age and enjoys walking in the area. He also enjoys painting and regularly attends drawing classes every week.

"Every Friday he would visit Llandudno on the train where he would meet with his sister. They regularly shopped in ASDA, Marks and Spencer and would visit the Monet Café.

"He is well known and liked in the Dolwyddelan area and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen him, or anyone who may know of his whereabouts to contact police." Searches have been undertaken by North Wales Police, the Ogwen Valley and Llanberis Mountain Rescue Teams, SARDA and NEWSAR. Further searches are being organised.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have travelled along the A5 on Monday 16th June, or anyone who may have information that could assist police are asked to contact officers on 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) or 0845 607 1002 (English line).
